Kill and Drill
July 31st, 2018 | Industry Shorts, Locating
Jon Moulton of Q3 Contracting speaks with us from a jobsite in which Q3 used potholing and hand digging to confirm the existence of an unlocatable plastic gas service line. This line had been marked previously by their locators via silver paint on the ground and white flags in the area. As such, Q3 determined that their excavation crews could not safely drill a new service to the affected home within the tolerance zone. A decision was made to “kill and drill.” In other words, they decided to kill the old service and then drill in a new service to the home to avoid any potential chance of escaping gas on the old line.
