Case Study: Catastrophe Averted!
On July 18th, 2018 lives were saved by a very observant Electric Conduit Construction crew. Their work for that day consisted of trenching about 80 feet along Augusta Street in Chicago and laying conduit for fiber optic cable to bring faster cell service to the neighborhood. As they saw cut and removed the road base, the foreman noticed that they had cut into a void. The void turned out to be 8 feet deep and was the result of a cracked tile carrying storm water out of a catch basin. Inside the void was a 36-inch and 6-inch gas main, along with a high voltage distribution cable, all unsupported due to material being carried away by the storm water flowing through the cracked tile.
