JULIE, Inc., the one-call system for Illinois, facilitated a series of Utility Coordination Meetings (UCMs) across the state in February where facility owners
and other stakeholders could share information about upcoming projects.
The idea for the UCMs came from several meetings, known as the Locate Summit, which were organized last year to bring major utilities, municipalities and other key stakeholders together to talk about the uncharacteristic volatility in locate requests. During those Summit meetings, JULIE identified the counties with the highest locate volume volatility for 2019, and talked about steps to help mitigate the potential for volatility in 2020 and beyond. The Locate Summit members recommended hosting UCMs with the purpose of compiling a list of reported major projects to assist stakeholders in forecasting and planning to accommodate projected workload.
